JOB DESCRIPTION – Up to 10 Hours/Week

To be and make disciples of Jesus Christ.

Responsible for coordinating, overseeing and planning smooth and safe operation of the birth through preschool children and their families of Refuge church.

• Has a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Worships at Refuge Church.
• Has a genuine concern for the spiritual development, safety and outreach potential of the children and First Steps ministry of the Refuge Church Early Childhood wing.
• Possesses the training, experience and abilities needed to fulfill the assigned responsibilities of this position.
• Demonstrates a servant’s heart.

• Inform church secretary of any new volunteers that need background checks.
• Recruit, schedule and supervise volunteers for the Early Childhood wing including both Sunday morning services, CONNECT classes, Wednesday night childcare, Women’s Bible Studies childcare, special event childcare and any related VBS childcare.
• Provide training for the volunteers in the Nursery and Wigglers
• Keep rooms equipped with age appropriate/quality equipment as well as cleaned/sanitized regularly; thoroughly sanitizing toys quarterly
• Communicate effectively with volunteers, parents, staff, and the church in general by sending monthly schedules to volunteers, sending reminder emails/postcards to the weekly volunteers, letting the church secretary and/or staff know of new families, and writing letters to preschool families when necessary.
• Implement any/all check in and check out safety procedures approved and implemented by the Trustee Board.
• Any other duties as assigned or see a need for.

Sunday Morning
• Arrive at least 15 minutes before the beginning of first service. You are expected to be involved with the nursery for at least one service and the CONNECT hour. If you are attending the CONNECT hour, you are expected to carry a pager for any emergency that may arise. The other 50% or less could be volunteered with the first steps coordinator being the individual accountable.
• Welcome volunteers and make sure all volunteers are present in both rooms throughout the Sunday morning services/programs.
• Greet and assist new visitors with young children.
• Provide extension activities during the second service in the Wiggler Room.

• This position reports to and gives weekly working log to the Associate Pastor.
• This position will have a 6-month evaluation with the CE Board to determine effectiveness of position and areas where support is needed.
• Annual job performance evaluations will be conducted with the CE Board and the Associate Pastor.
